The polymetallic mining group Volcan Compania Minera, of Peru, commissioned in August a new hydropower plant, increasing its ability to meet its power supply from its own generation sources. The 20 MW Rucuy plant, on the river Chancay in the Lima region of Peru, entered into commercial operation on 9 August, according to the national grid operator COES. The run-of-river station was built at a cost of around US$ 48 million by owner-operator Empresa Administradora Chungar, a subsidiary of Volcan. It is equipped with two horizontal two-jet Pelton turbines, which were supplied by Andritz Hydro. The Austrian group also supplied the main inlet valves and the hydraulic pressure units. Civil works, including the main water intake structure and the powerhouse, were constructed by Energoproject Holding of Serbia.
