Preliminary construction work is underway on a US$ 140 million project that will involve the development of six small hydro plants totalling 55.7 MW in the Ancash region of northern Peru. The US-based IBT Group announced on 21 October that its subsidiary, Hydrika Generation SAC, had laid the foundation stone for the construction of access roads that will pave the way for the company to develop the plants. Hydrika Generaci6n is to build and operate the plants under a concession awarded by the Ministry of Energy and Mines on behalf of the Government in February 2014, after winning project rights in the third competitive auction for renewable energy held in 2013.
