The 28 MW Nyabarongo hydro plant on the Nyabarongo river, in Muh-anga District, southern Rwanda, has begun full commercial operation following a two-month testing period. The power station was connected to the grid in late October, and is expected to be handed over to its owner-operator, the Rwanda Energy Group, in late January. The commissioning of Rwanda's largest power-plant increased the installed generat- ing capacity of the country by 24 per cent, from 119 to 147 MW.
