摘要

Colombia's largest artificial lake has been created with the recent completion of the 400 MW El Quimbo hydro scheme on the Magdalena river, in the region of Huila. The civil works contractor was Salini-Impregilo of Italy. The reservoir, some 250 km from the capital Bogota, will be 55 km long with a surface area of 80 km~2. Filling of the reservoir began in late June. El Quimbo, owned by Emgesa, Colombia's second largest power producer and a subsidiary of Enel of Italy, will be able to generate about eight per cent of the country's current electricity requirements when it begins commercial service.
