摘要

The 180 MW Nam Ngiep 2 hydro project in Xiangkhouang Province, northeastern Laos, was inaugurated on 2 October. The Kip 2.81 trillion (about USS 345 million) project began commercial operation in late September. It was constructed over a period of four years by a consortium of the China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE) and the Lao state power utility, Electricite du Laos (EDL), under a 25-year Build, Own, Operate and Transfer concession signed in August 2011. CWE, a subsidiary of the China Three Gorges Corporation, holds a 90 per cent stake in the project company, Nam Ngiep 2 Power Company, with EDL holding 10 per cent. The plant is projected to produce average annual output of 723 GWh, which is to be sold to EDL under a power purchase agreement signed in October 2011.
