Institutional structural reform of the Cameroon electricity sector

摘要

Cameroon electricity sector is still evolving and is really changing. Institutions in charge of promoting and regulating the sector are available but much still has to be done. They lack experience and this might present an opportunity for private investors who are yet to engage in the region and might influence future decisions governing the sector as is the case for ongoing development of plants. Since the end of the AES SONEL monopoly in 2006, private producers have been able submit applications. While some aspects of regulations still need clarifications and are being addressed by the Cameroonian authorities, the great potential in the country allows for the development of a number of mini, small and large hydro plants.
