FYR Macedonia's state power producer ELEM announced on 31 July that the Vrutok hydropower plant had been reconnected to the grid after its rehabilitation, which resulted in a capacity increase and extension of its operating life. The installed capacity of Vrutok, the country's largest hydropower plant, and one of three that form the Mavrovo hydropower cascade in western Macedonia, was increased by 16 to 166 MW. The capacity of each of its four units was increased by 4 MW to 41.4 MW, and the lifetime of the plant has been extended by 30 years by the refurbishment. The upgrading of Vrutok and the downstream 19.2 MW Raven run-of-river plant marks the end of the second stage of the rehabilitation of ELEM's hydropower system, increasing its installed capacity by 18.3 MW and annual production by 50 GWh.
