The engineering consultancy Royal Haskoning DHV of The Netherlands is assisting the Indonesian renewable energy developer PT Bhakti Putra Bangsa (TIRASA) with the development of four mini hydro projects along the Merawu river in Central Java, in an estimated investment outlay of US$ 30 million. The cascade of run-of-river projects, comprising the 6 MW Kere-kan, 6 MW Pandensari, 2.4 MW Watupayang and 1.2 MW Tempuran schemes, represents the first phase in an agreement signed with Tirasa in November 2013 to develop jointly 100 MW of small hydropower capacity in Indonesia over the next five years, to ensure electricity supply for an estimated 400 000 people.
