The Sayano-Shushenskaya power-plant, Russia's largest hydro station, has resumed operation at full capacity, after completion of reconstruction work. The last of 10 new units for the 6400 MW powerplant, which was damaged in a major accident in 2009, was brought online on 12 November, according to owner-operator Rus-Hydro, the country's state-controlled hydropower producer. The reconstruction of the plant, on the Yenisei river in Russia's Khak- assia region, was carried out in three stages over five years, at a total cost of Rb 41 billion (US$ 880 million), involving the replacement of all units. The reconstructed power station "has regained the title of the country's best, and one of the world's best, hydroelectric power stations", according to President Vladimir Putin.
