China's CITIC Construction has expressed interest in developing and investing in the Nemnovskaya hydropower project in Belarus, according to a report from Belarus on 3 November. Officials from the construction and engineering subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned CITIC Group discussed possible cooperation in the 19.8 MW project on the Neman river with counterparts from the regional power utility Grod noenergo. CITIC Construction is already active in several major investment projects in the cement industry in Belarus. Construction of the run-of-river project, which would cost an estimated US$ 130 million, including associated transmission infrastructure, is scheduled to begin in 2017.
