RusHydro, Russia's state-controlled hydropower producer, announced on 9 November the signing of agreements with Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) and China Three Gorges Corporation (TGC) to cooperate on the development of pumped-storage and storage hydro-power capacity in Russia with combined investments of up to Rb 368 billion (US$ 7.8 billion). The agreement with PowerChina, comprising Sinohydro Corporation and Hydrochina, provides for the establishment of a joint venture to develop the Leningradskaya pumped storage plant in northwestern Russia and, potentially, additional pumped-storage plants in Russia and other countries. RusHydro will hold a 51 per cent stake in the JV with the remaining 49 per cent held by PowerChina. The partners have also agreed that PowerChina can partner with other Chinese companies to create a consortium.
