The Enguri hydro plant in Georgia has been registered for carbon credits under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) as a result of its upgrade and refurbishment project. The project was undertaken by state-owned Engurhesi Ltd, which initiated the CDM-registration process covering three of the 1.3 GW plant's five generating units. Commissioned in the late 1970s, each of Enguri's units had a capacity of 260 MW but the three covered under the CDM initiative were only operating at 210 MW and 230 MW.
