A £2 million (€2.3 million) project has been initiated to help cut the cost of offshore wind power by increasing the energy yields from Round 3 wind farms: these would be situated up to 290 km from the UK coast. Known as the Wake Effects Measurement Project, it will provide detailed measurement data to help better understand how the wind behaves in complex situations offshore. This will help the industry to improve prediction, reduce financing costs and optimize wind farm layouts.
