The World Bank has approved a loan to help fund the Lom Pangar hydro scheme in Cameroon, which could lead to cascade development of the Sanaga river, as well as year-round generation from flow regulation. A US$132 million loan, with zero interest, has been approved by the bank, as part of debt funding provid ed by a group of banks and develop ment organisations for the US$494 million scheme. The World Bank loan, at almost 27 per cent of the total budget, is the lead loan for Lom Pangar, and has been given as a spe cial investment loan (SIL) to be implemented over six years.
