Colombian hydropower producer EPSA has secured two loans totalling Peso 169 billion (US$ 87.8 million) from local financial institution Banco de Occidente to finance construction of its 55 MW Cucuana hydro plant in Colombia, according to reports in mid-December. EPSA, a subsidiary of Spain's third largest power company, Union Fenosa, awarded contracts for the development of the project in September 2010. The local contracting firm Mincivil was awarded a Peso 100 billion construction contract, PPC bids to build the Upper Drina cascade The State-controlled Public Power Corporation of Greece has submitted a formal bid to construct the four-plant Upper Drina hydropower cascade in Bosnia's Serb Republic. Ten companies bought the tender documentation from regional utility Elektroprivreda RS to bid for the plants, but only PCC submitted a formal bid for the project, according to Ljubo Glamocic, tender commission president. Glamocic said a special panel would evaluate the bid and present it to the Serb Republic Government, which would then decide whether to start negotiations with PPC. The project, which is expected to cost around € 273 million (about US$ 363 million), requires the construction of three plants on the river Drina, and one on the river Sutjeska, in the east of the country, with a combined capacity of 165 MW and annual output of 553 GWh.
