Brunei is encouraging the Malaysian State of Sarawak to expedite construction of the Limbang and Lawas hydroelectric plants, from which Brunei has agreed to purchase 100 MW of power for light industries in Temburong, according to Malaysia's Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, in a statement issued in late 2010. He said the State Government had called for tenders and had identified foreign companies to build the two dams. Construction of the schemes is planned to be carried out simultaneously.
