Serbia's State power company Elektroprivreda Srbije, signed a preliminary agreement on 11 January with Italy's Seci Energia, a subsidiary of the Maccaferri Group, to develop jointly ten hydropower plants with an installed capacity of more than 300 MW on the middle reaches of the River Drina, on the border between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Construction of the project, which is expected to cost an estimated €819 million (US$ 1.1 billion), should begin in 2012, according to Gaetano Maccaferri, President of Bologna-based Seci Energia. The agreement was signed by Maccaferri and Dragomir Markovic, EPS General Manager, in the presence of Serbia's Minister of Energy Petar Skundric and Italy's Minister of Economic Development, Paolo Romani.
