The Government of Georgia, through the Ministry of Energy, invites expressions of interest by 28 April for the development of two to three hydro plants on a build, own and operate (BOO) basis on the Upper Mtkvari river in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. A technical and economic prefeasibility study prepared by Poyry Hydropower Engineering, in cooperation with Gross Energy Group, envisages the construction of a cascade of a minimum of two and maximum three hydro plants, with a total installed capacity of 137 to 219 MW and average generation of 714-1205 GWh/year. The preliminary costing of the Upper Mtkvari cascade project is estimated at US$ 410-604 million.
