Slovenia's first pumped-storage project has begun commercial service after an inauguration ceremony held on 30 March. The 185 MW Avce project on the Soca river in western Slovenia cost about €122 million (US$ 164.5 million) to build and is projected to generate average peak output of about 426 GWh/year. The owner-operator of the plant is the regional power utility, Soske Elek-trarne Nova Gorica, a subsidiary of Slovenia's state power producer Holding Slovenske Elektrarne.
