Australia's State-owned generator, Hydro Tasmania, began work in October on the modernization of its Tungatinah hydro station on the Niveriver in Tasmania. Hydro Tasmania, the plant's owner and operator, said that the AS 60 million project would involve replacing the turbines and control systems on three of Tunga-tinah's five units, as well as the refurbishment of other components. The programme will take three years to complete. Site works are already under way to upgrade the first of the three generators, which is expected to return to service by the end of June 2011.
