Severe ice conditions present a major challenge for the design and construction of tidal power schemesrnalong the Russian Arctic coast, and therefore intense research is undertaken to assess ice conditions, andrnthe behaviour of large blocks of ice. Attention focuses particularly on the regions where tidal powerplantsrnare currently planned, in the Barents Sea, the White Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk.
