More than 200 delegates attended a conference on the design and operation of spillways, which took place in Paris on 20 and 21 January, jointly organized by the French Committee of Large Dams (CFBR) and Societe Hydrotechnique de France.rnThe event was organized following debates and questions recently raised by the French Authorities regarding dam safety and flood control issues.rnThe conference, attended by delegations from mkny European countries and also Canada, covered four main themes: French experience; International experience; Physical and numerical models; and, Further thinking about design criteria.rnKeynotes adresses on Flood management and spillway design criteria were given by F. Lemperiere (Hydro Coop, France), A. Lejeune (University of Liege, Belgium), P. Nguyen (Hydro-rnQuebec, Canada), A. Hughes (Atkins, UK), G. Galeati (ENEL, Italy), and G. Darbre (Swiss Office of Energy).
