The construction camp to accommodate a workforce of about 600 has recently been completed at the Wuskwatim scheme, under construction on the Burntwood river in northern Manitoba, Canada. Associated recreational facilities will be finished shortly. Meanwhile, phase 2 excavation work, for the main dam and spillway, which began in June last year, has also been completedrnThe dam will be an earth- and rock-fill embankment with a maximum height above foundation level of approximately 14 m, with a 9 m-wide crest and a crest elevation ofrn236.6 m. The dam will have an overall length of 330 m.rnThe total excavation volume for the main dam, spillway and powerhouse will be approximately 860 000 m~3 of bedrock, and 1 × 10~6 m~3 of common excavation will need to be excavated. Some of the bedrock excavation will be used as riprap, but most of the materials will be disposed of in a permanent earth- and rockfill berm which will be constructed between Taskinigup Falls and Wuskwatim Falls.
