USA's Watcrline Industries Inc. signed a contract in late May with the Mavcl a.s. of the Czech Republic to supply a turbine and related technology for the replacement of unit 1 at Holyoke Gas and Electric's (HG&E) Boatlock hydro station in Massachusetts, USA.rnHG&E owns and operates a 32 unit hydro system through a three tier canal system fed by Hadley dam in Holyoke. The Boatlock station is located adjacent to Hadley dam and is equipped with three generating units.rnIn late 2008, HG&E solicited proposals for the replacement of unit 1 which housed a 500 kW vertical Francis unit, designed and manufactured in 1920 by James Leffel Company. The Leffel turbine had been operating at approximately 200 kW. A replacement vertical Francis turbine was specified, although a Kaplan runner was acceptable as long as changes were kept to a minimum.
