Ontario's renewable energy projects are now exempt from a wide range of municipal and provincial approvals, following the adoption of the so-called Green Energy Act in September. The new Feed In Tariff (FIT) is also now in effect, guaranteeing renewable energy producers a stable price for their power. It comprises two sections; one applies to renewable electricity generation projects (10 kW or less) on a home owner's property, and offers a guaranteed price for all the electricity the project produces for at least 20 years. The other section applies to projects larger than 10 kW; for water power it must be less than 50 MW and for solar PV less than 10 MW.
