摘要

The Czech Republic in central Europe has an area of 78 864 km~2, and a population of about 10.3 million (2006). The average annual precipitation is 680 mm. Total annual runoff is 12.8 km~3. Two Ministries are in charge of national water resources management: Ministerstvo zivotniho prostredi (Ministry of Environment) and Ministerstvo zemedilstvf (Ministry of Agriculture). In addition, there are five regional authorities for the major rivers. There are 118 large dams in operation, 109 of which are higher than 15 m; many are multipurpose. Total water consumption in 2005 is 0.699 km~3/year, of which 48.4 per cent is domestic consumption. The total water storage capacity of all dams is 3.94 km~3. Per capita domestic water consumption is about 98.9 litres/day.
