摘要

The Republic of Guinea covers an area of 246 000 km~2 and has a population of about 8.5 million; 70 per cent live in rural areas. The average annual rainfall is between 1000 and 1700 mm. Per capita water consumption is 18.25 m~3/year. Surface water resources are estimated at 188 km~2. Most of this volume flows towards neighbouring countries and the sea. There are five main organizations in the water sector: Ministere de l'Hydraulique et de l'Energie, Direction Nationale de l'Hydrauique, Societe des Eaux de Guinee (SEG), Service National d'Amenagement des Points d'Eau (SNAPE), and DATU/Urbainieme-Assainissement. Privatization and regulation of the water sector is planned. The country's surface water resources cover an area of around 188 km~2.
