摘要

Vietnam covers an area of 328 000 km~2 and has a population of about 85.2 million (December 2007). The mean annual rainfall is about 2000 mm (maximum 4000-5000 mm, and minimum 1000 mm). There are 2400 rivers and riverlets, with lengths of more than 10 km. The country has 180 large dams in operation: 92 embankments, 86 concrete structures and two composite dams. The total water storage of all dams is about 36 km~3. There are 14 dams 60 m or higher currently under construction, all part of hydropower projects. The highest are Son La (138 m, RCC), Ban Ve (136 m, RCC) and Ban Chat (130 m, RCC). Four of the others are 100 m or higher.
