Brazil's national development bank, BNDES, has approved a loan of Reais 150.3 million (US$ 91.8 million) towards the construction of the 93.6 MW Corumba 3 project on the Corumba river, in the State of Goias. The project, which is being developed by Neoenergia, a local subsidiary of Spain's Iberdrola, will cost an estimated Reais 222.7 million. The project, which features a 54 m-high, 800 m-long dam, and two-unit powerhouse, is scheduled to begin service this December. The project has already contracted to sell output to co-shareholder, Companhia Ener-getica de Brasilia, the distributor serving Brasilia.
