Portugal's State water agency, Instituto da Agua (Inag) has invited proposals over the last month for concessions to build a series of hydro plants, as part of Portugal's national programme of dams with high hydropower potential. This development is known locally as 'Programa Nacional de Barragens com Elevado Potencial Hidro-electrico'. In the latest tender, which was issued in early May, Inag invites bids by 16 July for the 163 MW Fridao project on the Tamega river, the 78 MW Almourol plant on the Tejo river, and the 48 MW Alvito project on the Ocreza river.
