The Concepcion hydroelectric project, on the Piedras river in Panama, has an installed capacity of 10 MW; two 5 MW Francis units operate under a net head of 69.45 m with a discharge of 20 m~3/s. Water is conveyed to the powerhouse through a penstock comprising 2194 m of GRP piping. The scheme is located in the west of the Republic of Panama, near the village of Boqueron, 30 km from the town of David, in Chiriqui Province. It was designed by the owner, Istmus Hydropower, and the contractor was Iconsa. The project involves a gravity water conveyance system as well as a high pressure pipe. For this, 2194 m of piping with a diameter varying between 2600 and 2800 mm were considered.
