Energias de Portugal (EDP) has recently won the bid for a concession to build the Fridao and Alvito hydro plants in Portugal, and operate them for a period of 65 years. EDP's proposal amounted to € 161.7 million (US$ 251.7 million) plus the € 70 million (US$ 108.9 million) minimum value established in the terms of the tender, which is expected to be paid by EDP in 2008. The investment in the two plants amounts to € 510 million (US$ 793.7 million) and the plants are scheduled for operation in 2016.
