This paper describes the treatment of the concrete face of Campos Novos dam, in Brazil, which was damaged during first filling of the reservoir as a result of compression stress produced by longitudinal movement in the dam axis. The differentiated behaviour of the dam in the first and the second filling is discussed mainly to the pre stress state of rockfill. The concrete faced rockfill dam of the Campos Novos hydroelectric plant is on the Canoas river, in the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. It is 590 m long, with a maximum height of 202 m. The LIE ratio is equal to 2.92, with abutments having an average inclination of 45°.
