The multipurpose Kainji scheme in Nigeria, constructed in the 1960s, is a key component of the country's water and energy infrastructure. While some individual parts of the scheme have undergone repair and refurbishment in recent years, a comprehensive rehabilitation project is considered long overdue. Companies are now pre-qualifying for a complete upgrade of the scheme, which will offer the possibility to increase energy production for Nigeria, and supply neighbouring countries with additional electricity.
