摘要

The development in TBM technology over the past 50 years has greatly influenced the design and feasibility of hydro plants. In the 1960s, hard rock gripper-type TBMs contributed to shortening the construction time of long tunnels, excavated mainly in good rock. In the early 1970s, Double shield TBMs were made for the first time, making it possible to install a precast final lining while excavating, and to bore through a wider range of geological formations and conditions. Recently, market demands on tunnels have increased, and completion times for hydro plants have been further reduced to shorten the investment repayment period. The TBM industry has responded by introducing more innovations and new types of TBM.
