This paper presents an overall description of rehabilitation and completion works at the Bumbuna Falls scheme in Sierre Leone, where work (80 per cent complete) was interrupted by civil war during the 1990s. The authors describe some specific aspects of the rehabilitation of civil structures and main equipment, with emphasis on: the assessments, criteria, specifications and construction methods; procedures for monitoring and dam safety control; and, conclusions which can be drawn from the Bumbuna case.
