摘要

This 360 MW project, now going ahead in Minas Gerais, Brazil, will incorporate Brazil's highest rockfill dam. The main features of the scheme, its role in the social and economic development of the Jequitinhonha valley, and challenges posed by the geology and topography at the site, are described here. The Irape hydro plant, on the Jequitinhonha river, on the border between the municipalities of Berilo and Grao-Mogol in Brazil, will have an installed capacity of 360 MW. Owned by Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais - CEMIG, and being implemented by the Irape Construction Consortium, this plant is part of a large and challenging engineering project; it also represents a major step for the social and economic development of the Jeti-quitinhonha Valley.
