Electricity supply and demand, as well as pricing issues in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries are reviewed, and a brief description is given of major new power sector investments likely to be made within the next decade or so. An overview is also provided of the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) and associated trends and prospects for regional electricity trade, including the status for electricity sector reform, legal and regulatory frameworks and the scope for competition in the electricity supply industry.
