As a former United Kingdom (UK) intelligence practitioner, Julian Richards has a perspective which is unusual among UK authors who write on the subject of intelligence. His more recent experience of teaching Security and Intelligence studies to university graduate students and law enforcement officers on short training courses has led him to write The Art and Science of Intelligence Analysis, a useful summary about the intelligence process and current thinking on intelligence analysis. In his own words, the book "deconstructs the profession of intelligence analysis in the contemporary, globalized world," and asks: Is it an art, a science, or both? The answer to this question, Richards maintains, is critical to understanding how to make the improvements that countless inquiries have suggested are necessary.
