An Investigation Into The Use Of Human Capital Management Using Knowledge Management Technologies In China

The results of the research presented in this article are designed to establish the extent to which Knowledge Management (KM) technologies are used in managing Human Capital (HC) in China and then to contrast those results with the results of similar research conducted at a global level. Primary data was gathered across 33 different organisations using a combination of interviews and through the distribution of a research instrument. Our conclusions indicate that there is only a marginal difference between the rank order of utilisation of specific KM technologies from a global perspective and the rank order of utilisation of those technologies in China. Our research indicates that such investments are being made, however, we have not measured the extent of the actual investment in monetary terms. The top four KM technologies used to manage HC do change depending upon the size of the organisation. Subjectively, we can account for this given the nature of the technology itself in that, for example, extranets will be utilised to a greater degree by larger organisations because larger organisations may have more customers and business partners.
