摘要

This is part of a series of mini-essays by Dr J. C. Jones that will be published in forthcoming issues. These have been peer reviewed to a degree appropriate to 'notes' rather than full articles. It is hoped that they will engender discussion, and readers with responses to any particular mini-essay are encouraged to contact Dr Jones himself or the journal editor. It is also believed that they will provide teaching material, in which case acknowledgement is requested. Indonesia is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and a major supplier of hydrocarbons, and its location makes it a suitable source of hydrocarbons for Japan. Japan is the world's largest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and it gets 70% of this from Indonesia. It also obtains crude oil (and, at the present time, coal) from Indonesia.
