ABBYY has announced the availability of its FineReader Engine 9.0 for Linux, described as "a robust software development kit" (SDK) to integrate ABBYY's optical character recognition (OCR), barcode recognition, and PDF conversion technologies into Linux-based applications. With what ABBYY describes as "accurate text and barcode recognition, unique document reconstruction technology, and wide language support", the ABBYY SDK is claimed to deliver "the most comprehensive OCR functionality" available for Linux in one product.
