摘要

This Special Issue includes a selection of papers which originally were presented and discussed at the Seventeenth International Working Seminar on Production Economics, Innsbruck, February 20-24, 2012 and subsequently extended and improved. The seminar series has a focus on scientific topics treating the interface between engineering, management and economics. It therefore contains a wide range of subjects. Its unique discussant system provides an excellent opportunity for participants to broaden study horizons, exchange research ideas and improve research outcomes resulting in this special issue. The discussant system and the conference timetable create and promote the development of a unique production economics community. The Working Seminar in 2012 included sessions in the areas of production and inventory control, investment and financial planning in production, manufacturing strategy, supply chain management, productivity and performance analysis, workload control, reverse logistics, asset management, and innovation and technology management. The 2012 Working Seminar had 199 participants from 28 countries.
