Ensuring all providers match standards achieved by the best offers the greatest opportunity for boosting productivity in the NHS according to the King's Fund, a UK health-related Think Tank. It also says that productivity may increase as a result of " patient choice driving competition between providers.rnThe King's Fund estimates that the NHS will need to save £14 billion a year by 2014 to plug the gap between NHS funding and service requirements. This will require "productivity improvements" of up to 4 per cent a year.rnThe report says that GP commissioning, as proposed in the recent White Paper "has the potential to make a positive contribution to improving quality and productivity".
