This book addresses the burgeoning domain of high-resolution satellite imagery, promising to pull together many of the concepts and principles in textbook format. In the preface, the authors state that high-resolution optical satellite imagery represents a true convergence of photogrammetry and remote sensing. However, they then go on to emphasize that the book '. . . is concerned with the photogrammetric use of high-resolution images, although aspects of image processing are also discussed'. The text is certainly very focussed on geometric principles, but is also likely to provide essential reading for scientists outside the traditional photogrammetric disciplines. An initial question which potential readers may pose is 'how is high resolution defined?' In this the authors are clear; the book only considers those sensors with a ground sample distance (GSD) of less than 16 m. This includes the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and Satellite Pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT), but clearly not Landsat.
