The book, Container Transport Management, is a collection of five research papers published by the Department of Logistics and Marine Studies of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The various chapters deal with five key areas in liner shipping, namely container shipping market, intermodal capability, electronic commerce (EC) adoption, empty and logistic management.rnThe first chapter provides a first interesting insight into a traditional question in shipping - is fleet expansion demand or supply driven? After a comprehensive literature review presenting the main characteristics of the liner shipping market, the authors test 11 propositions using a ten-year dataset to estimate what the prime motive for investment could be. Estimates using path analysis suggest seaborne trade as the key factor in explaining ship owners' decision to invest.
