摘要

If the symbol grounding problem is the problem of showing that the meaning of words or sentences in the brain is not represented by "symbols" decided by us but is represented as neural patterns of activation that are evolved or learned during the interactions of the individual with the world, I think the problem is solved. It is not clear what a "symbol" might be since all which exists in the brain is neurons, activation level of neurons, synapses between neurons, and strength of these synapses. Words are acoustic stimuli or movements of the phono-articulatory effectors and they are "symbols" in the sense that their auditory processing evokes specific activities in the rest of the brain (language understanding) or these activities cause the movements of the phono-articulatory effectors (language production).
