Technological Intercropping with the Cloud, IoT, and Big Data in Indian Organic Agriculture

The Himalayan challengeencompassing Indian agriculture apresenithe deterioration of soil 1 quality, the decrease in quantity and quality of farm produce, the indiscriminate use of agrochemicaland synthetifertilizers, unattractive price remuneration foproducers, exiguouwateavailability foirrigation, poopost-harvespractices, and unpredictable weatheconditions. Corollarieto these appalling situationinclude growerwho are furtheprone to distressales, inaccessibility to formal credit, insufficienmarkeintelligence, detachmenfrom mainstream commercial supply chains, bleak information networks, counterfeiagri-inputs, and mediocre crop managemenpractices. When icometo organiagriculture, there are many hard challenges, athe protocolare much more stringenand unforgiving. Today, organiagriculture should undergo paradigm shiffrom being only traditional to being organismaragriculture (OSA) in which the technological intercropping (TI) ipresenwith variouinformation and communication technologie(ICTs) and digital technologies, like IoT, cloud computing and big datanalytics. Thiwould play key role in maneuvering desirable information and tools, leading to bettedecision-making and risk management. Making the organiagriculture smarwould involve using the lateshigh-yielding agricultural technologiecoupled up with the value-based technological interventionfoimproving agricultural productivity and sustainability, all the while remaining globally competitive and environmenfriendly. However, given the technological complexitieand asymmetry in information networks, small and marginal farmermay nobe able to comprehend ocome on thiplatform single handedly; therefore, the role of farmer-based organizationlike farmeproduceorganization(FPOs), farmeclubs, NGOoperating in rural areas, SHGs, rural formal crediinstitution(RFCI), including micro finance institution(MFIs), crop insurance service providers, panchayabodies, posoffices, certification bodies, etc., will be absolutely critical to strategize and execute the entire game plan. The authoenvisionCONSORTIUM DRIVEN MULTIPLE STAKEHOLDEMODEL (CDMSM) foproviding these analyticserviceto the rural diasporin customized manner. The ideito utilize the existing infrastructure available in rural/rural town areaby technologically upgrading them foreaching outo the organismall and marginal farmers. Hence, thiwould be cost-effective and fastemeanto educate and coach the organigrowecommunity. Further, the rural unemployed youthcan be trained to acainfopreneurs, and they can be employed with the above-mentioned stakeholdebodiefoinstallation of sensorand propedissemination of information. Again, the possibility of carbon credican be worked out, awell aonce the technological intercropping takeconcrete shape athe datand information collected integrated with the upgraded infrastructure can be used to do the carbon audit, credit/debit, and trade.
