The U.S. Army announced on February 7 that it is making cuts to the Future Combat Systems (FCS) in an effort to balance program requirements with available funding. The recent program changes impact four of 18 system components. Two families of UAVs were dropped, and a heavy armed robotic vehicle and an advanced munition system were deferred. The Army said that the cutbacks would save the Department of Defense some $3.4 billion through 2013.
