Despite an otherwise stagnant market for power generation equipment genset rental has been growing steadily for some time. Outside the UK it is still regarded as a young industry. Research company Frost & Sullivan recently established that economic uncertainty was fuelling rising demand for short-term power supply contracts. These, in turn, will signal growth in the genset rental market. Its report concluded that rental was a cost-effective method of supplying power while avoiding the capital outlay and high maintenance costs of outright purchase. Not all regions have experienced growth and many feel a potential danger lies in the market becoming overcrowded, leading to a further decline in price levels and profit margins.
